Professor Alain RIVIERE

New Technology For Solving Large-Scale Geometrical Networks
(co-authors: Andre CLEMENT, Philippe SERRE)

Geometrical models developed with CAD/CAM software were initially of the Brep (boundary representation) type, followed by CSG (constructive solid geometry), parametric and, finally, variational. From a manufacturing standpoint, extremely large-scale, 3D geometrical problems need to be declared and resolved. Tensorial modelling culminating in the resolution of a minimum number of equations will therefore be presented and illustrated in this paper.

Alain RIVIERE is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Institute for Mechanical Engineering of PARIS. He received his PhD degree at the Ecole Centrale of PARIS in 1993. He is now director of the design department of his institute.

Professor Alain RIVIERE has authored and co-authored of two textbooks and more than 50 technical papers on the design of CAD/CAM modules focusing on geometrical product specifications. He is member of the French association for Mechanics (AFM).
