18 Apr 2012 LEDAS makes JETCAM to work 50 times faster
JETCAM International s.a.r.l (Monaco) recently announced a simultaneous launch of updates to its two flagship products – JETCAM Expert CADCAM and nesting software for sheet metal and composite users, and the Premium version of JETCAM Order Controller (JOC), which provides remote ordering, geometry creation and nesting for JETCAM Expert.
Version 16.23.02 of JETCAM Expert is the start of several end user releases planned for 2012 focussing on punching for sheet metal. The new release boasts a 50 x improvement when performing web nesting due to a completely re-written underlying core. It also includes the recently announced Prima-Power XML postprocessor for Tulus based controllers, along with many other feature enhancements across the board.
One of the key improvements in this version is a significant progress in the functional performance of web nesting (placing parts on the sheet so that, after cutting punching method, "skeleton" remains connected). The development of a new algorithmic kernel for the new version was outsourced to LEDAS whose team succeeded to accelerate related functionality of the previously already used functionality by 50 times based on the completely rewritten core algorithms.
JETCAM Order Controller v8.50 provides a remote method of ordering components or assemblies within JETCAM Expert, and this latest version provides a raft of benefits and improvements. The CAD import engine has been completely rewritten and now supports JETCAM Expert’s Single Component Automatic Processing (SCAP). This allows JOC users to remotely and automatically create geometry files from multiple CAD drawings and tool them for a punching or profiling machine with just a few clicks of a mouse. Upon receiving instructions from JOC, JETCAM will automatically process the queued files and report back once done. Users of JETCAM’s Remote Control Processing (RCP) module for JETCAM also benefit from a new streamlined interface. JOC also includes a comprehensive reports designer and generator, allowing for customized reports to be easily designed and implemented.
JETCAM was founded in 1986 to develop and market software systems for computer numerical control programming of punching and cutting machines used in sheet metal fabrication and composite cutting. By 2012, has over 12,000 licences granted to enterprises in more than 80 countries around the globe. Its customers include such well-known names as Embraer, Bombardier Aerospace and Red Bull Technology. JETCAM is a true customer-driven company: development of CrossTrack, a system to manage orders, materials and assemblies, was initiated upon customer requests. Together with JETCAM Expert it forms an automated order processing system that independently generates a CNC code for any machine.
At the end of 2010, JETCAM started transfer of its software product development to LEDAS. Today, a big team of LEDAS developers is continuously and successfully working within several JETCAM projects.

Solid Modeling and Drawing Enhancements
KOMPAS-3D V13 allows you to specify arrays from data in a table. See the figure below for an example of this new technique.
The construction of curves is refined with options for creating cylindrical spirals, filleting curves, and editing the shapes of spline by their vertices. Conical shells can be unfolded. Faces can be extruded and revolved without needing sketches.
Advanced Surface Modeling
New types of surfaces have been added to KOMPAS-3D, which can be analyzed:
Curve to a law
Spline on a surface
Outline
Isoparametrical curve
Group of isoparametric curves on a surface
Curve by two projections
Projective curve
Contour
The smoothness of surfaces can now be verified visually through zebra striping.
BOM and Properties Reporting
The new auto balloon function inserts balloon leaders automatically in 2D drawings, details, and 3D assemblies.
Properties can now be assigned to drawings, views, details, and macro elements. The properties of object properties in models and drawings can be presented in reports. These report are associative, and can include properties of the model depicted by the drawing and its objects. Reports on graphic documents can be inserted in the document.
New Add-Ins
The new APM FEM (finite element methods) add-in is a fully integrated stress analysis solution that operates in a single window.
The new Mould and Die Design System is a powerful tool that increases the productivity of designers making moulds for the plastics industry. It increases design quality and therefore improves the competitiveness of companies producing these products.
The add-in implements the following functions:
Analyzes the parts of 3D models

built-in applications for FEM-analysis and mold design,
new instruments for sheet-metal and surface modeling, and
a special configuration for instrument design.
From now on, there exist three major configuration of KOMPAS-3D V13: Mechanical, Building and, Instruments: obviously, each of them with a certain specifics enabling more effective work of engineers.
Designers will see in KOMPAS-3D V13 serious development of intelligent building design MinD (model in drawing, model drawing) technologies.
Due to the strong user wishes, the new version includes at last «undo / redo actions in 3D» as well as reports on the graphical document properties.
With KOMPAS-3D V13 you are able not only to create three-dimensional geometry, but also to establish a complete digital description of an information model of the product, analyze its data and prepare for production (by passing it to the manufacturing design system or to CAM programs).
The new version greatly extends possibility of creation 3D curves, which are used as a base for any surface model. There are new commands for surfaces construction and analyze. These innovations allows applying a new design methodology to simplify the engineers work and improve performance.
KOMPAS-3D still considers a drawing as the main output document expected from designer. Therefore, the two-dimensional design allows generating tabular reports for graphic documents and their objects, for instances of views, fragments, and macrocells: now attributes and properties can now be assign to all these elements.
isicad.ru recommends to take a look at the video clip created by ASCON especially to present KOMPAS-3D V13: although in Russian, it demonstrates an obvious progress in the company marketing skills and readiness to invest in it:
12 Jul 2010 LEDAS made Constraints Demo Application available for all ODA members
The Open Design Alliance (ODA), a non-profit consortium of over 2,000 software developers and users committed to promoting open, industry-standard formats for the exchange of CAD data and CAD legacy data, works with third party component vendors to deliver direct access to a variety of additional features to members.
The list of third party components available to ODA members (ACIS from Spatial, HOOPS from TechSoft3D, Adobe-Based PDF) has been extended with the Constraints Support from LEDAS.
All ODA members can now integrate the LEDAS LGS 2D geometric constraint solver with a Teigha for .dwg files client application to provide easy access to constraint solving functionality.
A sample application demonstrating a number of constraint-related features can be found on the ODA web site. The demo implements the following functions:
Load a drawing file containing constraints, and render the drawing.
Add constraints to a drawing file.
Move geometry on the screen, when the mouse is released all geometry is updated per the constraints contained in the drawing.
Edit distance or angle parameters, causing constrained geometry to be updated automatically.

The first ever open competition event in Russia, called the "Battle Between Modern CAM-Systems", took place on December 3, 2009 between Edgecam and ADEM.
The Russian Industrial Company (a certified authorized distributor of Edgecam) that initiated the event, provided site and initial data in the form of a mathematical model, process design and manufacturing of which were in the core of competition between the two systems.
The event aroused significant interest and it was a great success. Both systems demonstrated their capabilities in programming domestic and foreign CNC machine tools. Small desktop milling machines were provided by Roland and “Leninets” Plant” Research and Development Centre. Details of the matrix were produced in full by both systems including rough and finish 3D mode. Three different tools were employed: two cylindrical and one cutter fitting. Instead of metal billets, a special material – model plastic - was used to shorten the processing time and reduce the noise.
Visitors were also able to verify the possibilities of ADEM as an integrated CAD / CAM / CAPP system. Along with CNC programming, ADEM was used for creating matrix design drawings, and technological process, comprising: a route chart, a tooling program, a tool setup sheet, a sketches chart, and for calculating the treatment time.
The ADEM Group calls to extend the initiative and invites developers and technical specialists in other systems to organize a similar show in any of the following nominations: 3D and flat modeling and design documentation, process design and shop floor documentation, creation and optimization of NC programs, knowledge update (work with paper drawings and control programs).
